The population here is basically semi-rural. The low purchasing power of these families and the general social degradation greatly hinders their possibilities for accessing basic medical care and medicines. In addition to this socio-economic situation, there are the problems that stem from scant sanitary education in the families which is frequently the cause of the high rate of infant mortality. The specific objectives of the Project were the following:
\n\u2022 Create conditions that allow a greater number of students from the interior of the country to pursue a degree in Nursing. The initial degree requires three years of study. The maximum capacity of the School is 150 students.
\n\u2022 Provide a permanent structure where students studying nursing science can have adequate instruments at their disposal to complete their professional and personal development.
\n\u2022 Quickly improve the level of health instruction in the area around the project.
\n\u2022 Organize weekly training sessions to complement the studies of the nursing students.
