Even though the majority knew how to read and write, their education was very rudimentary, they had few economic resources and they were occupied with house or farm work or with small livestock. They had little or no access to healthcare, education or credit. The majority were heads of households with an average of 5 children each.
\nEach of these women received a loan of between 70 and 290 euros which they used to improve their small businesses of textile making, sales of clothing, sales of goods, animal husbandry, crop tending and handicrafts. Micro credits given to Mayan women are always accompanied by training.
\nOur local partner, FUNDAP has been able to use these loans to strengthen the essentially rural populations\u2019 participation in the search for solutions to combat poverty.
