President’s Letter

Dear donors, contributors, volunteers, and financing entities:

As I do every year, I send you the FABRE Foundation Annual Activity Report for the year 2022. I hope that you will find in it a summary of what year 2022 has meant for our Foundation. With it, my reflection on what this past year has been like.

A few months ago the world was coming out of the storm of the pandemic and showed signs of economic recovery that would bring relief to millions of people impoverished by job losses. When a bit of serenity was coming into view, which was a promise to come back to direct interpersonal relationships, to meet again without restrictions or limitations, a new catastrophe appeared in the horizon, intended for imposing a different scenario on the world. The war in Ukraine came to add to the regional wars that in these years are bringing death and destruction.

How many poor people the senselessness of war generates! Everywhere you look, it is confirmed how violence affects the defenseless and the weakest. Millions of women, children, and elderly people are forced to defy the danger bombs entail in order to reach safety by seeking refuge as refugees in neighboring countries. Those who remain in conflict zones live everyday with fear as well as lack of food, water, medical care, and, above all, affection. In these situations, reason is obscured and those who suffer the consequences are many ordinary people who are added to the already large number of those affected: how to provide an appropriate answer that brings relief and peace to so many people left at the mercy of uncertainty and precariousness?

It is up to each one of us to look around and work to improve it. While I write these lines, the news with which we woke up today comes to mind: an earthquake of historic proportions has devastated Turkey and Syria with thousands of deaths, injured, and affected people.

There are many fronts on which we can take action. FABRE with its daily work keeps trying to do its bit. If only each one of us feels challenged and all together we can achieve a more fair world!

All the projects included in this Activity Report would not have been possible without your support. With the wish that you will feel proud of the work done in 2022, and, on behalf of the entire Fabre team, I send you our kindest regards,

Rita Regojo Bacardi
FABRE President
